You might be doing all the right things to prevent cancer, heart disease and other fatal illnesses, but research shows if you have a poor oral routine, you are still at a high risk of these deadly diseases.
- Most of these diseases are caused by inflammation in the body, a primary symptom of gum disease, also called periodontitis.
- Diseases linked to periodontitis include; diabetes, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, heart and Alzheimer's diseases. Pregnancy complications are also linked to gum disease.
- Prevention includes regular flossing and brushing of teeth, using a bacteria-free toothbrush.
Remember to visit your dentist regularly for checkups. If your gums are bleeding when you brush, see your dentist right away.
